Due to hot dry weather the first MBO Young Observers meeting of 2014 has been moved to Saturday the 15th of February. We will meet from 7:30pm till 9:30pm (sunset is at 8:27pm and the Moon should be high in the sky by then).
Young Observers is an astronomy group with a practical focus. We aim this year to teachthe changing night sky and to encourage children to make use of their knowledge by presenting to others. Each Young Observers session also includes talks and movies to put the observing into context and teach some real astrophysics!
There is so much to discuss this month:
- observing projects for the year
- MBO's indigenous astronomy research project
- Steven Hawking's new ideas about black holes
- Science Week 2014
and of course we will be looking at the Moon and Orion.
Young Observers is free for members. Non-members can take part for $5 per child but to participate regularly need to become members. Bring along a plate to share for supper (tea/coffee and cordial provided).
