Dear Member of Mount Burnett Observatory,

This is to provide notice of the society’s Annual General Meeting to be held on:

Friday the 23th of November at 7pm

Following the meeting there will be a cutting of the ribbon by the federal MP to the new dome, before moving onto our special guest speaker and MBO member, Pam Bain.

Pamela Bain, In-House Artist with the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University, will talk about her work that intersects art with science and her involvement with the astrophysics programme, DEEPER WIDER FASTER.  She will also announce an up-coming exhibition next year to mark the Moon landing anniversary and tell us about her on campus art workshops for the Swinburne Art Stars – a team of PhD students and staff members who come together to create … stuff.

AGM Information

In accordance with rule 30 of our association rules the AGM must be held to:

  1. Confirm the minutes of the previous AGM.
  2. Receive the Committee’s report on the previous year’s activities.
  3. Vote to accept the association financial statement for the club’s previous financial year (which ended June 30th 2018).
  4. Elect a new committee.
  5. Confirm or vary the membership fee.

Committee reports will be made available to all members via email at least 48 hours before the meeting.

All members of the association are entitled to attend the meeting.

Members are eligible to vote if they are over the age of 15 and have been a member for more than 10 days by the time of the meeting.

Members eligible to vote that cannot attend but wish to participate may appoint another MBO member to act as their proxy and vote on their behalf. Proxies must be appointed in writing (a proxy form is attached) and the form must be signed by the member appointing the proxy. Proxy forms can either be handed in to the secretary or emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. Members eligible to vote and who are aged 18 or above are entitled to nominate for a position on the 2018-19 committee. Verbal nominations for committee positions will be accepted during the AGM or nominations may be submitted in writing in advance using the attached nomination form.

Committee positions to be filled at the AGM  are:

  • President.
  • Vice-President.
  • Secretary.
  • Treasurer.
  • A number of Ordinary Committee Members (as determined at the AGM).
