Friday 9th August

This Friday night Perry Vlahos will be presenting "Sky for the Month". This is a great opportunity to find out what the most spectacular things will be in our skies and worth observing for the next few weeks. Don't know what that bright star is? No idea what constellation that group of stars belong to? What planets can be viewed this month? Want to know which deep sky objects are best placed for observing this time of year? All of these questions will be answered, plus much more, such as the truth about the Perseid Meteor Shower After the talk and supper, weather permitting, we will make use of our new-found knowledge and look at the sky through our telescopes. Members' Night is on every Friday commencing at 8pm. Visitors are always welcome. Note that with the recent rain the car park is now boggy. Those attending please ring ahead on 0409703929 for parking arrangements.

Friday 26th July

This week, Ken Beard and Barry Cleland will be giving a talk and presentation on John Dobson. He is most notable for being the promoter of a design for a large, portable low-cost Newtonian telescope that bears his name. and for his avid promotion of "Sidewalk Astronomy", the bringing of astronomy "to the people".

MBO have a number of these telescopes, and after the talk and supper (weather permitting), we will use them to observe the heavens.

Friday 19th July

This Friday James Murray will give a talk entitled "New Horizons" that summarises an eventful week in astronomy. A massive new radio telescope has been launched, radio bursts from the edge of the universe discovered, and a mission to Pluto has been in contact with Tidbinbilla. If that is not enough Neptune has a new moon.

The talk will be followed by supper and observing.

Every Friday night is members night at Mount Burnett. Proceedings start at 8pm. Visitors are always welcome.

Friday 12th July

Some of the most wonderful things to see in the sky are best placed now and this Friday night our President - Perry Vlahos, will take us on a tour of the July sky so that you may see them for yourself in his illustrated 'Sky for the Month' presentation. First he'll show you how to find them using the Starry Night software, and then in situ outside using a high powered laser pointer. Bring your binoculars, we'll supply the telescopes, and download, print and bring along a copy of the southern sky for July from the link below. Supper is provided and visitors are welcome. Members' Night is on every Friday 8pm.
