Friday 30th November 2018 - Stephanie Rowlands

8pm Friday 30th November 2018 we have our very own Stephanie Rowlands giving a talk on her research project work at the Anglo Australian Telescope.

The formation and evolution of galaxies is a major focus of ongoing study in  astrophysics. The region of gas surrounding many galaxies, called the Circum-galactic medium (CGM), has been linked to this process. Finding out more on the properties and distribution of this gas is vital to gain a clearer insight into the processes within galaxies.

The objective of my research was to identify regions of this CGM gas around 4 winter-sky galaxies and our own Milky Way using distant quasars and detailed spectroscopy measurements which I will share during my presentation.

Members' Night is on every Friday night. Guests of members are always welcome. Contributions of food to share for supper are always gratefully received!

Please consider the neighbours and drive in and out quietly using low beam only.

Please note: MBO will always be closed on days of Severe, Extreme and Code Red fire ratings, please see the CFA website for up-to-date information.
