Two special events this coming Friday 20th June 2018! First of all our own Perry Vlahos will conduct a quick tour of all the planets visible to the unaided eye (weather permitting):
Having all five naked eye planets visible at once in the evening sky is a very rare event and has not occurred for many year. We at MBO would like to share this with our members. To facilitate it, we’ve decided to hold an event earlier than normal Members’ Nights this Friday 20th July, and it will start at the family friendly time of 6:30pm and go for an hour. Perry Vlahos will lead us in a chase to capture Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn – plus the moon; all will be visible to the naked eye, and then we’ll also view them through telescopes of MBO. Don’t be late however, as Mercury – the most elusive, sets early, and you could miss gathering the whole set! You are then welcome to stay on for the regular Members’ Night, which will begins at the normal time of 8pm. Don’t miss it – see you there.
and that will be followed by us farewelling (at least temporarily) one of our core members, and leader of the Deep Sky Section, Braeden Borg (sniff!)!
MBO Outreach Star and Deep Sky Overlord, Braeden Borg is leaving us to undertake further studies in Sydney. This Friday, for our Member Night we are planning to celebrate his time with us and give him a reason to miss us. So come along with your best Braeden stories, or, if you don't know what all the fuss is about, come and find out. And maybe we can all find out what our new 'Sydney Liaison' has planned for the future. Bring along some great food to share and be prepared to participate in the MBO iconic pointing at the sky photo that we plan to take.
Members' Night is on every Friday night. Guests of members are always welcome. Contributions of food to share for supper are always gratefully received and demolished! :-)
Please consider the neighbours and drive in and out quietly using low beam only, or better still, parking lights.
Please note: MBO will always be closed on days of Severe, Extreme and Code Red fire ratings, please see the CFA website for up-to-date information.
