Friday 17th November 2017 - Ian Sullivan - Constellations, Their Origin and Development

8pm Friday 17th November Ian Sullivan (ASV & MPAS) will be our guest speaker, talking to us about "Constellations, Their Origin and Development":

The naming of groups of stars in the night sky is traced through folklore, and the customs, of ordinary people,to illustrate stories or reinforce daily life. They also enable scientific classification by astronomers to aid observation. They are areas of sky  encompassing any star, cluster, or galaxy found within, named after shapes they resemble, or stories they symbolise.  Ancient Greek science has supported old mythology to give Greek science and culture a dominant role over others in naming, but which is now internationally  controlled.

Members' Night is on every Friday night commencing at 8PM sharp (doors open 7:30PM). Guests are always welcome.
