Friday 10th November 2017 - Two Astronomy Video Lectures

At 8pm this Friday we have two different science videos for our regular members night:

Cosmos: A Space Time Oddysey, Ep 13 - Unafraid of the Dark. This episode explores the mysteries of dark energy and dark matter, as well as the contributions and theories of Swiss astronomer Fritz Zwicky, who furthered our understanding of "supernovae, neutron stars and 'standard candles.'" The finale reveals a recording of life on Earth - the final message on the golden record of the space probe, Voyager.

A brief supper, followed by two parallel streams of either:

Alex Filippenko: Understanding the Universe, Ep 80 - The Age of the Universe.  How old is the Universe? The Hubble Space Telescope was designed, in part, to answer this question. You follow the chain of reasoning that has led astronomers to conclude that the Universe began 13.7 billion years ago.

Supper, discussions in cabin, observing.   Or:

Visual observing through the telescopes (weather permitting).

If you have a telescope and would like to know how to use it, or alternatively, would like to show it off to us, please bring it along.

Members' Night is on every Friday night commencing at 8PM sharp (doors open 7:30PM). Guests are always welcome.

Please consider the neighbours and drive in and out quietly using low beam only, or better still, parking lights.

Please note: MBO will always be closed on days of Severe, Extreme and Code Red fire ratings, please see the CFA website for up-to-date information.

For weather information please see our useful links.
