Friday 21st July 2017 - Beginner’s Night: All About Eclipses (at U3A Emerald)

IMPORTANT: VENUE CHANGE: due to concreting works the venue for this talk will be U3A Emerald which is at 402 Belgrave-Gembrook Road (also known locally as 402 Main Street) (link goes to Google Maps), which was the old CFA building, opposite Zest Cafe, just near Emerald Library and Worrell Reserve.

8pm Friday 21st July we have our next in our "Beginner’s Nights" series with Jacquie Milner, aiming to help those who are new to astronomy and would like to learn more!  This time it's "All About Eclipses".

There’s an eclipse season coming up in August, so it it’s a good time to talk about the basics of eclipses. There’s lots of terminology to explain, the different types of eclipse that occur, how they occur, how ancient peoples worked out the pattern they occur in, how to rate the darkness of a lunar eclipse and we’ll try to explain just what is a saros? We’ll also include a brief look at solar eclipses visible over the Australian continent in the coming decades, as they are less common than lunar eclipses, and where to find information about eclipse events on the internet.

Members' Night is on every Friday night commencing at 8PM sharp (doors open 7:30PM). Guests are always welcome.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS TALK IS AT U3A EMERALD, NOT MBO, SEE ABOVE FOR DETAILS!
