Almost everything we know about the universe has travelled to us on a beam of light. We can’t travel to a star or pull one apart to see how it works. Instead, astronomers use light and the stories it tells to piece together our understanding of the universe.
Dr Tanya Hill is the Senior Curator of Astronomy for the Melbourne Planetarium. Other museum curators might have cupboards or rooms overflowing with their collection items, but Tanya's collection is the night sky. Since 1999, Tanya and her creative team have been producing planetarium shows that are seen in planetariums across Australia and around the world. Tanya is a skilled science communicator and she is the Australian representative of the European Southern Observatory's Science Outreach Network and also writes an astronomy column for The Conversation, an online news source written by academics.
